What do you think 400,000 babies are born in the United States to mothers who are illegal immigrants.?

Question by Untied States Of Latina: What do you think 400,000 babies are born in the United States to mothers who are illegal immigrants.?
Each year, an estimated 400,000 babies are born in the United States to mothers who are illegal immigrants. More than 25 percent of those babies are born in California.

Although Congress has never passed a law saying so, no president has ever ordered it, and no court has ever ruled on the issue, each of these babies automatically becomes a U.S. citizen when it takes its first breath.

That could change if legislation that Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Gold River, joined in sponsoring in April becomes law.

Lungren, who served as California’s attorney general from 1990 to 1998 and worked on the last successful push for an immigration overhaul when he represented Long Beach in the Congress in the 1980s, said he is trying to stimulate a debate on what he believes is a key factor drawing immigrants illegally across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Critics have another word for it.

“Xenophobia,” said Crystal Williams, deputy director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. “They are afraid of having more Hispanic citizens.”

Contributing to the evolution of U.S. policy is the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Ratified in 1868, after the Civil War, it was intended to ensure that children of freed slaves were extended U.S. citizenship. The amendment states simply that anyone born in the United States and “subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” is a citizen.

U.S. policy has come to recognize “birthright citizenship” in just about every vital transaction.

I think the illegal alien issue is out of control on more than one front. This is just another reason we HAVE to get control. If for no other reason but for the welfare of these children. Being born into an environment where they are raised among those involved in an illegal subculture just isn’t fair. They need to be back in their own country where their children aren’t put into untenable positions.

Illegal parents aren’t suitable parents. It’s unfortunate, but true.

Shouldn’t the US government and all the states just get out of the marriage business. Why be “legally married”

Question by Steve b, a Human Bean: Shouldn’t the US government and all the states just get out of the marriage business. Why be “legally married”
Personally, I am Christian and don’t agree with the Gay marriage thing. But, so what? Why should anyone have to be “legally married” to begin with?

But, of course, then what would all the divorce lawyers do?
Marriage should be a private matter.

Besides marriage is a religious based belief to begin with, so, why aren’t all you “separation of church and state” people trying to remove the government from marriage?
Sorry, folks, but most of you need to check your history books. Marriage is a religious based belief. Before religion “legally married” did not exist. Of course people have always formed “unions” , and always will.

Our government has based our entire family system, tax codes, insurance benefits, etc on this system.

There are already laws in place that make both parents share the care of children anyway and if people can just walk away from marriage, what is the point? Most states have “no fault” divorce laws, in which, a divorce is granted automatically, so why bother?

marriage is NOT religion-based

people got married before religion.

i have no religion and i got married. and i did it because i felt like standing up in front of the world and saying “i love this man with all my heart and want to spend the rest of my life with him”

Q&A: With 76% of States balking at Obamacare, isn’t that a pretty good sign there will be pressure to repeal it if?

Boise Attorney

Question by ME 2: With 76% of States balking at Obamacare, isn’t that a pretty good sign there will be pressure to repeal it if?
it passes? (Especially possible when Dems lose majorities in Congress)

BOISE, Idaho – Idaho took the lead in a growing, nationwide fight against health care overhaul Wednesday when its governor became the first to sign a measure requiring the state attorney general to sue the federal government if residents are forced to buy health insurance.

SIMILAR LEGISLATION IS PENDING IN 37 OTHER STATES.

The United States Music Copyright Laws?

Question by NekoDoodle: The United States Music Copyright Laws?
So growing up and all I was under the impression that only one copy per purchase could be played at a time.
Example; You don’t play “bought once two copies” Sexy Sadie at location A and location B at the same time.

But, not sure anymore. Is it alright to download music if you can’t find it sung by that person anywhere else? Is it alright if you plan on buying it later? Is it alright if you have a (movie, game, tv-show ETC.) where that song is featured? Can you rip songs from a cd, and then give said CD to someone else?

Could someone explain the FBI-Anti piracy warning in /my/ language? As in make it understandable from average-person to average-person, not lawyer to average-person.

This is all hypothetical and I’m just confused.

The RIAA has a website dealing specifically with piracy questions. The website is obviously skewed towards the music industry, but it does a pretty job of explaining the complex laws in lay terms.

I suggest you start with that website first to look for answers to your questions. I link to the website below.
