AILA Welcomes Senate Proposal to fix our Nation?s Broken Immigration System

AILA Logo

Washington, DC (Vocus) April 30, 2010

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is encouraged by an emerging immigration proposal—the Real Enforcement with Practical Answers for Immigration Reform (REPAIR)—put forth today by Senators Harry Reid (D-NV), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Charles Schumer (D-NY), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) that provides a path forward for both political parties to come together and enact a lasting federal fix to the problem this year.

“We hope this proposal which contains ideas from both political parties also inspires bipartisan partnership in Congress to continue to work towards a comprehensive immigration bill. This proposal requires undocumented immigrants to register with the government and get right with the law. It includes tough enforcement at the border and in our workplaces and creates a visa system that protects labor rights and meets the economic needs of our future,” said Bernie Wolfsdorf, President of AILA.

In addition, the framework includes tough controls on the hiring of unauthorized immigrants that will make use of a new biometric Social Security card as part of an electronic verification system. Under this proposal the millions of undocumented persons living in this country will be required to come forward, register their status, and be screened and fingerprinted. They can then apply for an interim legal status which will grant them the ability to work in the United States and travel abroad. Eight years after the law is enacted, when backlogs are cleared in employment and family visa categories, they will be eligible to apply to adjust status to lawful permanent resident. They will be required to pay fines, taxes and civil penalties, learn English, and fulfill other rigorous requirements.

“Its time for both Republicans and Democrats to join together and show they have the will to fix our broken immigration system once and for all. It’s time to put smart policy ahead of partisan politics,” concluded Wolfsdorf.

Nation’s Largest Tax Resolution Law Firm Launches Easter Egg Drive For Ronald McDonald Charity

North Highlands, CA (PRWEB) April 3, 2010

The Tax Lady Roni Deutch and the Community Action Committee of her Sacramento based law firm are participating in a new community outreach event, this time by partnering with the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House.

“Just days after finishing our winter clothing drive – where my law firm’s team donated several bags of clothing to a local receiving home – my law firm’s Community Action Committee has launched a new Easter Egg toy drive for the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House,” explains Deutch.

“I am proud of all my employees for showing a dedication to helping out in our local community,” continued Deutch. “The Easter Egg hunt is a great way for children to celebrate the Spring season, and I gave the project a huge thumbs up as soon as our Community Action Committee proposed the idea.”

The firm has placed collection baskets throughout the office for employees to donate plastic Easter Eggs already stuffed with candy and toys. The drive began earlier this month and lasted until March 24th.

The Ronald McDonald house is going to use the Easter eggs to hide for both children staying at the house as well as the local neighborhood children. Every year, 3,000-5,000 eggs are hidden in the Easter Egg hunt for the children at the house.

The Sacramento Ronald McDonald House is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help children and their families by providing an atmosphere where families can rest, reflect, and find mutual support. This home-away-from-home provides shelter and comfort to families who must travel to the Sacramento area in order to receive medical treatment for their child. The House offers family members of seriously ill and injured children a refuge from the hospital setting.

Aussie Comedy Film Nominated for United Nations Media Peace Prize

Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) September 12, 2004

An Australian comedy short film The Ball that recently screened on Australian TV Network Ten as part of the “Just for Laughs” comedy series has been nominated by the United Nations for a Media Peace prize.

The short stars veteran Australian actor Max Gillies (“Gillies Report”) as a cricket loving Prime Minister Howard and Australian comedienne Gabby Millgate (“Babe Pig in the City”, “Muriel’s Wedding”) as a soccer loving boat person who washes ashore in Australia. The nomination is reportedly the first time a short film, and additionally a comedy short film, has been nominated for the award.

The film is the brainchild of Anny Slater, a Melbourne raised Sydney entertainment lawyer who wrote and directed the film, and who with fellow producers Lily Hamdan and Serafina Froio, has steered the film to success at more that 60 international film festivals since its release in April 2003 including the short listing at the 2004 Oscars as best live action short film and screening at The Hamptons and San Francisco Film Festivals. At San Francisco, the film was a finalist for best short film selected by a panel headed by international director Milos Foreman (“Amadeus”). It also played at the Santa Fe Film Festival alongside such films as Nicole Kidman’s “The Human Stain” and at the Montreal Comedy “Just for Laughs” Festival with Carl Reiner’s film “The Man with Two Brains”.

The St Johns Film Festival, Canada said of the film “…a sign of artistic maturity is the ability to look at the world with razor-sharp wit…. The Ball is a hilarious homage to and critique of Jane Campion’s The Piano, …. In a few brilliantly crafted images, The Ball manages to score major laughs of recognition, as the mute heroine, Ada, travels to New Zealand to meet her new husband with her Scottish terrier and her soccer ball. Mistaking refugee-challenged Australian Prime Minister John Howard for her husband, Ada must deal with his strange demands and the loss of her precious ball. Need we say more?”

Ms Slater said, “The Ball is a kind of ‘natural response’ for me to the distressing Australian and international events of the last 2 years. Comedy is most often the most effective method of highlighting serious issues. I’m just glad it translates to audiences locally and in other countries so they can laugh today and think about the underlying issues tomorrow.”

The Media Peace Awards will be announced in October 2004

Nation?s Leading Tax Relief Firm Advises Against Costly Tax Evasion Schemes

Tax Attorney and Tax Resolution Services

Encino, CA (Vocus) June 9, 2010

Every day, in cities across the country, people are being prosecuted or convicted of tax crimes. According to tax expert Michael Rozbruch, if you’re struggling during these tough economic times and need IRS tax relief, there are many options to consider for resolving your back taxes or other IRS woes.

Tax evasion is not just a problem for the wealthy. The IRS reports that tax evasion is a widespread problem costing the government an estimated 0 billion in unpaid taxes and creating a tax gap that grows by 10% each year. However, with federal initiatives aimed at narrowing the tax gap, the IRS is cracking down on tax evaders both big and small.

“There is a big difference between tax evasion and tax avoidance,” said Rozbruch, founder and CEO of Tax Resolution Services, Co., a company that provides affordable solutions to people seeking IRS tax relief. “While it is perfectly legal to work within existing laws to avoid paying more than what is required by the IRS, cheating the government on taxes by evading tax laws is criminal and can carry up to a 5-year prison sentence and/or IRS penalties up to 0,000.”

And you don’t have to be a tax attorney to know the red flags that will cause the IRS to be suspicious of tax evasion, Robzruch adds. Even in the current enforcement climate, taxpayers can learn how to avoid IRS tax audits and save money by taking advantage of legal tax deductions and avoiding costly IRS penalties and interest.

“It’s important for taxpayers to avoid becoming targets of aggressive IRS collection efforts like debilitating bank levies that can financially cripple them for life,” Rozbruch said. “Additionally, anyone who owes back taxes or is being audited by the IRS will need to know that working with a Certified Tax Resolution Specialist or tax lawyer can greatly increase their chances of successfully resolving their IRS tax problems and negotiating a settlement for the lowest amount allowed by law.”

Tax Resolution Services, Co. is dedicated to providing affordable solutions to businesses and individuals alike who find themselves in trouble with the IRS. Their expert team of tax attorneys, CPAs, and Certified Tax Resolution Specialists has a success rate of 90% – second to none in the industry – and an Offer in Compromise Settlement Rate of .11 on the dollar.
