Baron & Budd, P.C., Attorneys Earn Trial Lawyer of the Year Award

DALLAS (PRWEB) July 22, 2006

Attorneys from the Dallas law firm of Baron & Budd, P.C., have earned the prestigious “Trial Lawyer of the Year Award” presented by Trial Lawyers for Public Justice.

The lawyers from Baron & Budd and Richard “Rick” Gonzales of Tucson, Ariz.-based The Gonzales Law Firm, P.C., were chosen for this year’s award based on their combined work in two cases involving groundwater contamination in the Tucson area.

Attorneys Fred Baron, Misty Farris, Steve Baughman Jensen, Renee Melancon, Janice Robinson Pennington, Jane Saginaw and Thomas Sims earned individual recognition during the awards presentation held July 18 at TLPJ’s annual meeting in Seattle.

“The dedication of the attorneys and our clients’ persistence produced a result in these cases that will benefit future generations for many years to come,” says Russell W. Budd, Managing Shareholder of Baron & Budd. “We are very proud of the firm’s work, and we are very grateful to be recognized for this incredible honor.”

Baron & Budd represented more than 1,600 Tucson-area residents in claims against an aircraft manufacturer, the City of Tucson and the Tucson Airport Authority over groundwater contamination. Much of the contamination was caused by industrial solvents containing trichloroethylene, or TCE, which is classified as a probable and suspected carcinogen. Baron & Budd’s clients suffered a variety of injuries – including cancer – due to their exposure to TCE through the city’s water supply.

The litigation reached its conclusion in June 2006 when insurers agreed to fund settlements for residents who had filed their original claim in 1985. The 21-year legal battle helped define Arizona laws on pollution coverage issues, and is widely considered among the most important litigation in U.S. history involving personal injuries caused by water pollution.

Trial Lawyers for Public Justice presents its “Trial Lawyer of the Year Award” to the trial attorney or attorneys who have made the greatest contribution to the public interest within the past year by trying or settling a precedent-setting case or cases. TLPJ describes finalists and recipients as exemplifying “how trial lawyers use their skills and determination to create a more just society.”

Tampa Criminal Attorneys Mayberry/Rich Earn Consecutive Trial Wins

Tampa Criminal Attorneys Mayberry/Rich Earn Consecutive Trial Wins

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) August 26, 2009

Tampa criminal defense firm Mayberry/Rich (http://www.mayberry/ ) earned back to back trial wins for two of their clients. Mayberry/Rich, headed by Tampa criminal lawyers Jason Mayberry and Jeff Rich, went to trial for two separate clients on August 6, 2009 and August 11, 2009, and achieved acquittals in both cases*.

The first trial, was held in the Hillsborough County court on August 6, 2009. In this trial, defended by Tampa criminal lawyer Jeff Rich, the defendant was charged with a misdemeanor. The career choice of the defendant in this case would have been compromised if the result was anything less than total acquittal. Criminal defense attorney, Jeff Rich advised his client to remain seated in the audience when his case was called to avoid the Officer having a free shot to determine identity. When the State asked the Officer to identify the Defendant in the audience, the Officer identified the wrong person. Jeff Rich earned a trial win on a Judgment of Acquittal due to the fact that the officer was unable to identify the defendant correctly.

The second trial was held in the Polk County Court on August 11, 2009, and this case was defended by both Tampa criminal attorneys Mayberry and Rich. The defendant had been charged with battery after a fight broke out during a concert in Lakeland. The defendant owns a clothing line and was sponsoring 4 of the bands playing on the night of the incident. Tampa criminal attorney Jason Mayberry advised the defendant to take this case to trial as he felt he had a good self defense argument based upon the facts of the case. After aggressive cross examination of the alleged victim and witnesses, and a compelling closing argument indicating self defense on the part of the defendant, the Jury found the defendant not guilty.

“It was a good week at Mayberry/Rich,” affirmed Tampa criminal attorney Jeff Rich. “We were able to provide a solid defense for our clients and prove their innocence in the courtroom. It is weeks like this that I am glad I decided to practice criminal defense. Though Mayberry and I have complete contrasting styles in the courtroom, we always seem to give the jury what they want. I feel confident we gave these defendants, and all our clients, the best defense possible,” said Rich.

Mayberry/Rich Tampa criminal attorneys hope to continue to serve the Tampa Bay area community by providing aggressive criminal defense to all their clients. Call the partners at Mayberry/Rich at 813-251-3330 for a free consultation on your case.
