International Student, married U.S. citizen, lost student status (Out-Of-Status), how to apply for Residency?

by kleer001

Question by Melissa: International Student, married U.S. citizen, lost student status (Out-Of-Status), how to apply for Residency?
I came to the U.S. as an International Student. I married my husband, a U.S. citizen and then lost my student status (so I am Out-Of-Status), I wish to apply for a Permament Resident Visa, what paperwork must I file? what forms should I file? should I seek legal assistance for being Out-Of-Status? Is there a different procedure, form, fee, fine, for being out of status? if there is, does it matter how long have I been out-of-status? the longer i have been out of status, the greater the fine, fee, etc.? What are some “normal, regular” lawyer fees for this kind of case? Please help if you are an immigration lawyer, and actually know what you are talking about. Or if you just recently wnet through the same situation, and know exactly what to do! thank you!

I don’t know much about immigration law,but I heard some people say ( they pretend like lawyer ) say like ” just pay fine ,and let lawyer take care of it,it sound to me make no sense..why so easy like that ..just pay fine ,and beside which immigration lawyer I suppose to trust, because I heard a ton of information it so different from any whom pretend to know, and even a lawyer in my community( Thai ) .I try to look out any information on the Internet, which it hard to pen point to the right spot for me,i feel the law not suppose to easy,it different depend each individual’s ,and circumstances .My wife ,she don’t need to break the law at all,but some time situations lead to that way….,and finally If somebody has resources for low cost ,or reasonable cost immigrations lawyer please tell me.
I must apologized to anybody for my poor English grammar, and verbaly..Thank you very much
