Is there really no going back to “square one” in a court case when you get a terrible lawyer to represent you?

Question by Jason: Is there really no going back to “square one” in a court case when you get a terrible lawyer to represent you?
My wife had a horrifically bad lawyer represent her in her unemployment hearing (state appointed)…is there any way to get a new hearing if your representation is THAT BAD? if so, how would you go about this? seems unfair to punish a person w/ no legal background when their appointed lawyer is incompetent. Please advise…thanks!

Answer by NeoNerd
You can appeal. If he was that bad, you should have dismissed him and appointed someone else – you’re not obligated to keep the same lawyer.

Highly Experienced
Tax lawyers have the education, training, and experience to help you solve your tax troubles. A competent tax lawyer will be knowledgeable about the IRS’ complicated tax code and therefore, better suited to help you resolve your tax debt.

IRS Defense
As you probably already know, the IRS can be very aggressive in their collection efforts. If you feel the IRS has treated you unfairly, then it is in your best interest to hire someone who has experience in dealing with the IRS and won’t be intimidated.

Privileged Communications
When you communicate with a tax lawyer or his or her staff, you can rest assure that what you tell them will remain confidential. Like all lawyers, tax attorneys are required to keep your communications confidential. They will only discuss with the IRS your financial information in order to resolve your tax debt.

Ethical Standards
Tax lawyers and attorneys are licensed and regulated by their respective state bars. They are required to complete a minimum amount of continuing legal education to remain up-to-date on their profession. They are also required to be honest in their communications. To do otherwise, would be to risk disciplinary sanctions by their state bar.

Skilled Negotiators
A tax lawyer’s negotiation skills and experience come in handy when negotiating with the IRS to resolve your debt. A tax lawyer can negotiate a manageable tax resolution since they have the experience and negotiation skills necessary to deal with the IRS.

Not Intimidated
Most taxpayers are intimidated by the IRS and the IRS knows this. On the other hand, tax lawyers are not intimidated by the IRS because they know what the IRS can and cannot do. Competent tax attorneys will not back down in their negotiations with the IRS until they have done the best they can for their clients.

Binyam Mohamed arrives back in the UK from Guantnamo 23 February 2009

www.timesonline.co.uk Binyam Mohamed, the former British resident who claims he was the victim of US rendition and torture, arrived back on UK soil today from Guantanamo Bay where he has been held since 2004. The 30-year-old touched down at RAF Northolt, to the west of London, on board a chartered jet at about 1.15pm. Appearing hunched and thin and wearing a white cap pulled down over his eyes, Mr Mohamed shambled down the aircraft steps and was met by security staff. He was accompanied on the flight by officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter-terrorism Command, a uniformed police escort team and a doctor. At a press conference this morning his US military lawyer, Lieutenant Colonel Yvonne Bradley, said that he was in poor physical and mental state after reportedly being on hunger strike for the past few weeks. “I know he is fit to travel, but that is pretty much a minimum status for him,” said Colonel Bradley. “I know he is going to have to put on a lot of weight as he was at least 40-50lbs underweight when I last saw him. [Recovering] mentally is going to be a longer process, given the ordeal that he has gone through.” In a statement released an hour earlier through his lawyers, Mr Mohamed thanked everyone in Britain who had helped to work for his release since his arrest in Pakistan in 2002, but said that his alleged betrayal by his adopted country had been hard to bear. “The very worst moment came when I realised in Morocco that the people who were torturing me

Roni Deutch Helps Clients Settle IRS Back Taxes Through Manageable Monthly Payments

North Highlands, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2007

In April 2007, tax lawyer Roni Deutch helped clients owing the IRS in aggregate over .5 million resolve their tax debts through monthly payments called Installment Agreements, which Roni recommends for any one finding themselves in tax debt for the first time this year.

“With tax season having just ended many Americans are finding themselves owing more to the IRS than they could possibly afford,” claims Ms. Deutch. “Negotiating an Installment Agreement is an excellent option for people finding themselves with IRS tax debt for the first time. Instead of being forced to pay the IRS the total balance due in a single, lump sum payment, an Installment Agreement allows you to pay your total IRS tax debt over time through affordable monthly payments.”

In April 2007, Ms. Deutch and her law firm, Roni Deutch, A Professional Tax Corporation represented Installment Agreement clients who owed in aggregate over .5 million to the IRS. On average, each client owed approximately ,000.00 to the IRS. By negotiating with the IRS, Roni Deutch and her firm were able to get these clients on an installment plan of 4 per month on average and as low as per month.

“I’m proud of the manageable payment plans my law firm negotiated for our clients,” Roni Deutch stated. “Having high monthly payments can put taxpayers right back into debt, but having a reasonable payment can help them get back on track.”

Depending on each client’s financial situation and the amount of time the IRS has left to collect the debt, an Installment Agreement may pay back all or part of the total back taxes owed. Once the IRS has accepted the Installment Agreement, the IRS will immediately suspend all collection efforts, including notices, wage garnishments, bank levies, and asset seizures. The IRS will continue to suspend collection efforts while the taxpayer remains current with payments. However, interest and penalties will accrue on the tax debt through the life of the Installment Agreement until the total balance due is paid in full.

“All of my firm’s Installment Agreement clients have the intention to fully pay the amount they owe to the IRS. However, they may not have the financial means to do so in a single payment. This inability to fully pay their IRS tax debt is in constant conflict with the IRS’s desire to collect as much as they can, as fast as they can,” states Roni Deutch. “Nevertheless, our office has had success representing individual and business taxpayers and negotiating with the IRS to establish affordable and manageable monthly payments. Our representation can provide taxpayers the relief they deserve and ensure that the IRS doesn’t cause additional financial hardship.”

Installment agreements are only one of the various services that Roni Deutch, A Professional Tax Corporation offers. The firm has experienced tax lawyers specializing in tax debt relief through a variety of tax relief services including: offer in compromise, currently not collectible status, wage garnishment release, bank levy release, revenue officer assistance, payroll tax representation, tax account review, and full pay service.

Millions of people recognize tax attorney Roni Deutch as television’s “Tax Lady.” She has been helping taxpayers nationwide resolve their tax liabilities for over sixteen years. As an industry leader, she has saved her clients tens of millions of dollars and has helped thousands of families settle their back taxes. In March 2007, she saved her offer in compromise clients close to million in estimated IRS back taxes.
