Q&A: Once you file for Texas divorce how long can it be “put off”?

Question by april5683: Once you file for Texas divorce how long can it be “put off”?
My husband and I have decided to divorce. His uncle is a family law attorney and agreed to help us for free. He filed over 60 days ago and has been putting off writing a divorce decree draft. He says that he is “busy” and doing it for free so to be patient. I had a lawyer but husbands family talked me into using the uncle. How long can the divorce be “put off”? I am getting fed up with waiting. I have heard that you only have 6 months once you file to finalize things. Thanks!
