LegalView Updates Brain Injury Site with Information on TBI Disabled Soldier’s Family

Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 1, 2008, the number one online legal resource for Americans, recently updated its traumatic brain injury blog with information of one family’s struggle to provide a disabled soldier family member with care after he sustained a severe traumatic brain injury from an improvised explosive device (IED) hitting his Humvee in the Iraq war. The family has blogged about their role as caregivers that each have provided for Sgt. Sam Nichols since he returned home. Each blog lists updates on Nichols status as well as insight into the difficulties that have plagued the family which are not only mental and physical, but have taken a financial toll as well.

Individuals with a similar plight to that of Sgt. Sam Nichols and his family should consider contacting a brain injury law firm that can provide a number of TBI attorneys and TBI lawyers to choose from. A brain injury lawyer will likely be able to offer a free legal consultation as to the development of any potential traumatic brain injury lawsuit.

Traumatic brain injuries affect millions of Americans annually and a total of 5.4 million U.S. citizens currently suffer from TBI and its side effects, which can range from memory loss to personality changes as well as cognitive disorders, according to the Brain Injury Association of America (BIA). For more information on the details and complications associated with a TBI diagnosis, it is advisable to contact a neurologist as well as a specialized traumatic brain injury attorney.

LegalView also offers several other information portals for victims of more than just traumatic brain injuries. For example, there are information portals with topics ranging from mesothelioma cancer to controversial prescription drug issues such as Avandia and Byetta.

Mesothelioma cancer is a rare form of cancer that has been linked to the inhalation of asbestos fibers and dust among individuals often employed in or working with construction materials. The mesothelioma practice area portal offers information on mesothelioma treatments and updated mesothelioma news as well as how to obtain an experienced mesothelioma attorney.

Additionally, there are several pharmaceutical portals containing information about controversial drugs such as the type 2 diabetes drugs known as Avandia and Byetta. Avandia, which was released from GlaxoSmithKline in mid-1999, is part of a drug class that utilizes an individual’s natural insulin production rather than administering outside insulin injections. It has been prescribed to millions of diabetics and has also been at the center of an ongoing controversy regarding the Avandia side effects. The drug has been linked to early onset osteoporosis as well as heart disease and heart failure among patients.

Byetta, which is also a type 2 diabetes drug at the center of a controversy, is part of a different class of drugs that uses the body’s natural insulin production as well, however, Byetta injects medicine that “mimics” the effects of hormones and other functions into the body to cause insulin production. Byetta has been available on the market since 2005 and by October 2007, patients began reporting side effects that included acute pancreatitis. Individuals who have been adversely affected by Byetta are encouraged to contact a pharmaceutical attorney as participation in a Byetta class action lawsuit may be possible.

LegalView Reports on Helmets as Traumatic Brain Injury Increases among Soldiers in Iraq

Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 11, 2008

Denver, CO — LegalView, the number one resource for everything and anything legal, recently reported the negative results of a study that found helmets might worsen a traumatic brain injury (TBI) among soldiers in Iraq and even act as a “focusing mechanism” for shockwaves during a blast caused by an improvised explosive device (IED). The results of the study were reported during the 61st Meeting of the American Physical Society’s Division of Fluid Dynamics at the San Antonio Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). The study reported that shockwaves emanating from an IED explosion may “penetrate the gap between the helmet and head” causing an increased number of shockwaves under the helmet and outside of the helmet worsening the traumatic brain injury that can occur, according to the TBI information blog.

Those who have suffered from TBI should consider consulting an experienced brain injury law firm that can provide contact to an array of knowledgeable brain injury lawyers and brain injury attorneys who can provide a free legal consultation as to the development of a TBI lawsuit.

Individuals who are also in need of additional information on other legal topics can find assistance through the LegalView library of information portals, with topics including the latest on Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis, Avandia and Byetta.

Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) is a rare and extremely crippling condition that is commonly attributed to the administration of gadolinium dyes during magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance angiography (MRI/MRA) procedures among kidney disease patients. The condition can cause patients skin to thicken and swell eventually disabling the joints from moving. Those who suffer from the NSF side effects can consult with a personal injury attorney and likely receive a free legal consultation as to the development of a potential NSF lawsuit that may offer a return of monetary compensation to assist in paying for NSF treatments.

Avandia and Byetta are both type 2 diabetes prescription medications, however, each has been making news headlines for very different reasons. Avandia, from GlaxoSmithKline, was introduced to the market in 1999. In 2007, a New England Journal of Medicine article reported that consumption of Avandia allegedly increases the risk of heart disease among patients. Additionally, a Swiss study announced that Avandia also may allegedly increase the risk of bone breaks and fractures during consumption of Avandia. Those consuming Avandia may want to speak with their physician regarding the alleged Avandia side effects.

Also in 2007, approximately 30 patients reported to the FDA that they suffered from pancreatic inflammation while consuming Byetta, the type 2 diabetes medication. In 2008, again, six patients were hospitalized with acute pancreatitis all of whom were consuming Byetta. The FDA is investigating the claims of an alleged link between Byetta and the development of pancreas disorders, but patients are advised to speak with their doctor as well as to an experienced Byetta attorney.

Brain Injury Accidents Can Be Difficult To Prove by Chula Vista Head Trauma Lawyer Mark C. Blane

Chula Vista Brain Trauma Attorney Mark C. Blane briefly discusses how brain injury accidents occur when an external force causes injury to the axonal tissue of the brain. This type of injury is medically classified as a diffuse axonal injury or DAI. Brain injuries can be present without any external physical evidence, which makes them more difficult to prove in an injury case. The best way to legally prove brain injuries without any physical evidence or medical documentation is to bring in family members and those close to the victim, to testify to emotional changes within the victim. Often, emotional change is the best indication of a brain injury. If you think you or someone you love may have a brain injury, do not feel like you are alone. According to a recent study from the researchers at the Nova Scotia Dalhousie Medical School, embryonic stem cells may offer muscle restoration for victims of an injury, including a traumatic brain injury, and who have suffered from nerve damage or motor neuron conditions.

Scientists from the medical school found that embryonic stem cells that were grown in the laboratory could be transplanted to the damaged neurons in an injured victim and could be reproduced. Scientists explained that the project “opens the door for a variety of different treatments.”

Identifying TBI

TBI can occur in a number of individuals in a variety of ways, which is why it is important to note all of the potential such an injury signs and symptoms that can occur, as it is imperative that an individual know these characteristics of TBI.

No matter how severe or mild the signs and symptoms of TBI may be, it is necessary to seek medical assistance immediately to avoid a worsened condition in the future. By employing adequate knowledge of the following TBI side effects, signs and symptoms, a brain-injured victim can be treated timely and avoid a worsened condition through inaction.

The following are the most common brain injury side effects, according to the Mayo Clinic:

* headache, persistent headache

* unconsciousness

* amnesia

* confusion

* dizziness

* inability of balance

* sensory problems

* blurred vision

* ringing in the ears

* mood changes

* bad taste

* memory inabilities

* concentration problems

* repeated vomiting or nausea

* convulsions or seizures

* inability to awaken from sleep

* dilation of one or both pupils of the eyes

* slurred speech

* weakness in extremities

* numbness in extremities

* loss of coordination

* profound confusion

* agitation

* combativeness

* refusal to eat

* listlessness

* altered sleep patterns

* altered performance at work/school

Coping With A Traumatic Brain Injury

As more Americans become at risk for developing a traumatic brain injury, especially those returning from the war in Iraq, it is important that the appropriate treatments and support are sought. Unfortunately, many brain injury treatments are quite expensive and may not be covered by insurance companies because of experimental or new treatments.

Developing litigation, if this occurs, may be necessary for a victim to receive a reward of monetary means to pay for a costly brain injury treatment. A brain injury lawyer can provide details on developing a lawsuit as well as how a victim might receive monetary compensation for their injury.
